Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has announced plans to begin a tour across Maldives to strengthen party activities.

In a press conference on Wednesday evening, MDA’s leader, Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed said the party would begin its tour after Ramadan.

“So, God willing, Maldivian people across the country will see a lot of party activities after Ramadan,” he said.

Siyam said that MDA was working on alleviating the difficulties of the Maldivian people.

Noting that shortage of housing was an issue not just in Male’, but also in islands outside the capital, Siyam said no government had worked to solve the problem.

Siyam said that even in islands that issue land, the people don’t receive enough financial support from the government to build homes.

“They don’t give anything to build homes. They offer very little. It doesn’t take much money to construct such large buildings,” he said.

Siyam also expressed concern regarding Maldives’ foreign policies.

Siyam said that Maldives had no business getting involved in conflicts and wars between foreign countries, and that a small country such as Maldives should not be allowed to express hostility towards other countries.

“Therefore, the people need to see the extent of the capabilities of the future leaders of this country, and whether they can value foreign policy, the services of the people, and provide the Maldivian people what they deserve,” he said.

During Wednesday’s meeting, several people from Fuvahmulah City and Dh. Meedhoo joined MDA. Some of the new members from Meedhoo include people who had been with the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for years.
